NAASF - TAOS 2023 |
This hidden gem has continued to delight us every year we've been coming since the first NAASF ski week here in 2016. They were one of the few early-season snow disappointments in the Rockies this year, but rallied just a few weeks before we were scheduled to arrive with several back-to-back major dumps that laid down a very respectable base and opened the entire mountain for our skiing pleasure - and caused a couple inbound slides while we were there as well! We even had to delay one of the race days for slide mitigation. Good problems to have, really - until I had to dig my car out of almost 3 feet of snow at the end of the week...!
The speed with which lodging sold out this year meant that we had our members scattered all over the resort, but it didn't seem to matter - people seemed to find their way to all of the races, parties, and apres-ski bars just fine!
Our Tuesday night club dinner was at the Taos Ale House again - but this time, up in the Taos Ski Valley, so no driving into town and back! We had a great dinner party and got to meet more new members:
- David and Andrea LaFrance
- Dillon Lohmer
- Kyle and Shannon Peterson
The theme party this week was Bike Week, for which a surprising number of our members seemed to be fairly well-equipped! We had wall-to-wall leather vests, jackets, and pants - as well as a handful of cyclists sprinkled throughout the group, apparently in search of a peloton!
All of the racing took place together on the same hill again this year, so it was fun to have snowboarders, A's and B's all together and cheering for each other. Aside from a couple timing hiccups - and a serious whiteout or two! - everything went off pretty well. And Delta jumped out to an early, but slim lead on the NAASF Cup standings! We saw some great performances from some of our new members racing for Delta for the first time, too!!
